Are You Playing Small or Scaling Bold?

If you feel stuck or discontent, it might be a sign you’re settling for familiar routines instead of chasing exponential growth.

Are you optimizing for growth or just grinding harder?

It’s easy to fall into the trap of incremental improvement. You get good at something, then work harder at it, hoping for better results. But as Benjamin Hardy and Dan Sullivan argue in 10X is Easier Than 2X, real growth doesn’t come from doing more of what’s familiar—it comes from bold vision, brave decisions, and a willingness to leave your comfort zone behind.

I know this firsthand. Every time I’ve felt stuck or frustrated professionally, it’s been because I started playing small—trying to protect what I’d already built rather than dreaming bigger. That mindset shift, from maintaining to multiplying, has changed everything for me. It’s why I’ve quit comfortable jobs, launched new programs, and taken leaps I didn’t feel ready for. I’ve stared imposter syndrome in the face and walked forward anyway.

Signs You’re Stuck in a 2X Mindset

If you’re bored, unmotivated, or coasting through your work on autopilot, you might be in 2X territory. I see it all the time—leaders who are highly capable but completely unchallenged. They’ve mastered their current roles and feel like something is missing. That frustration? It’s a dashboard signal. Your potential is nudging you toward more.

What holds people back isn’t lack of talent, it’s fear. Fear of the unknown, fear of letting others down, fear of stepping out of an identity they’ve built. As Gay Hendricks explains in The Big Leap, we often self-sabotage to stay aligned with the smaller image we have of ourselves.

The Path to 10X Starts with Letting Go

10X growth doesn’t come from trying harder—it comes from thinking bigger. It requires you to let go of 80% of your current tasks, habits, or even relationships that keep you in maintenance mode. Focus on the vital 20% that will actually move the needle. Create a vision so bold it feels impossible. Then build the systems and courage to make it real.

Years ago, I left a job that was “good” because I knew I had peaked. It was terrifying. But in that leap, I grew more than I ever imagined possible and reached more people than I could’ve from the safety of that role.
