BIO: Meet The Way To Greatness Author, Chris McClure

Chris McClure is an author, coach, and trainer who helps individuals learn and implement The GREAT Life Action Plan so they can experience the full, rich, satisfying, abundant life that God created each person to live.

After being called to full-time Christian ministry at the age of 16 and serving more than 20 years as a full-time youth and executive pastor, Chris was called by God to leave what was familiar and comfortable and go into the marketplace to serve business owners and executives through leadership coaching and training.

After much prayer and reflection, while building his business, God gave Chris a message to share with the world through a book, course, and coaching program in 2018 – The Way To Greatness: The Five Continual Choices That Lead To The GREAT Life.

Chris is passionate about helping people learn and apply the principles God laid out for him to pass on to others. Too many people are leading small, mediocre lives when God designed everyone to experience so much more. His call to action for anyone he meets is to Lead Life BIG – Be Intentionally Great.

Why Chris’ Message Is Important

Life Satisfaction Rates Are Decreasing

“One-in-ten Americans say they feel lonely or isolated from those around them all or most of the time, according to a Pew Research Center survey conducted earlier this year. While this is a small share of U.S. adults overall, the share rises significantly for some groups, including those who feel weak ties to the communities they live in and those who are financially stressed.

Personal finances also relate to feelings of loneliness. People who say they are somewhat or very dissatisfied with their personal financial situation are significantly more likely to express feeling frequent loneliness than those who are satisfied with their finances (17% vs. 5%). Similarly, 14% of those who say they don’t have enough income to lead the kind of life they want report feeling lonely or isolated frequently, compared with just 5% of those with enough income to lead their ideal life.” (https://www.pewresearch.org/fact-tank/2018/12/03/americans-unhappy-with-family-social-or-financial-life-are-more-likely-to-say-they-feel-lonely/)

Midlife Suicide Rates Are Increasing

“Suicide has increased in nearly every U.S. state since the late 1990s and now claims about 45,000 lives a year…Suicide rates for the overall population have climbed nearly 30% since 1999 with increased rates among men and women and all ethnic groups. Middle-aged adults had the highest number of suicides and largest rate increases, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in a report published Thursday.

Earlier research showed that suicides among middle-aged men and women climbed at a higher rate than the overall population. Suicide among men aged 45 to 64 increased 43% from 1999 through 2014. The suicide rate uptick was even higher among women in that age group, though more men died from suicide, the CDC said.

While rates have been historically higher among elderly adults grappling with chronic disease or social isolation, the rising number of suicides among middle-aged adults is a public health concern, said Maria Oquendo, chair of department of psychiatry at the University of Pennsylvania.” (https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/2018/06/08/anthony-bourdain-kate-spade-deaths-middle-aged-suicide/684850002/)

The Comparison Trap Is Ever-Growing

“Judging from her Facebook page, Lisa appears to lead a charmed life. A middle-aged advertising executive, she takes pictures while strolling through London on a European vacation and choosing fresh produce at a farmers market closer to home. Those who spend time with her in person might also think her fortunate. She has a lovely, grown daughter and a devoted husband, and she lives in a handsome New York apartment. An artist at heart, she revels in the city’s cultural offerings and recently had a personal essay published in The New York Times…Yet Lisa’s internal view of her life is much darker. “I have difficult feelings about how I don’t have what I want,” she confesses. “I feel as if I’ve made the wrong choices and fallen short.” Her sense of inadequacy flares especially when she compares herself to friends, colleagues, and people from her past—many of whom linger in her awareness because of social media.” (https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/articles/201711/the-comparison-trap)

God Created Everyone to Live a Full, Rich, Satisfying, Abundant Life

Jesus said in John 10:10 “The thief (Satan) comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.” God has so much more planned for us than most people experience in life.

An Overview of The Way To Greatness

Excerpt from Introduction (Page xix)

“A few years ago, I found myself searching for a new direction in my life and career. This was a very difficult season for me but, as I look back, it was also a significant season of growth. God was using the challenges of circumstances to move me into new territory and elevate my life to new levels. I learned that difficulties, challenges, and pain are not always indicators of doing something wrong. Rather, God works through them to move us out of our comfort zones into growth zones.”

CHOICE #1 — BUILD YOUR GOD-CORE

Action Step 1:    Determine Your Starting Point

Action Step 2:   Define Your Desired Destination

Action Step 3:   Identify Your Perceived Barriers

Action Step 4:   Create Your Initial Plan

Action Step 5:   Develop Your Daily Disciplines

Excerpt from Choice #1 (Page 2)

“The foundation of The GREAT Life is a solid relationship with God…In fact, the state of your relationship with God has the power to enlarge or diminish your impact each day. Much like abdominal workouts build your physical core which supports your body, spiritual workouts build your God-Core which supports your life.”

CHOICE #2 — PROTECT YOUR RELATIONSHIPS

Action Step 6:   Assess Your Relationships

Action Step 7:   Discover Your Blind Spots

Action Step 8:   Heal Your Hurts

Action Step 9:  Deepen Your Commitments

Action Step 10: Balance Your Investments

Excerpt from Choice #2 (Page 34)

“Before we take a deep dive into how to protect your relationships, let’s first acknowledge that relationships can be messy. They take much work to make and keep healthy, and they are sometimes draining. That’s the bad news. The good news is that relationships make life worth living…All of the material and financial resources you acquire in your lifetime would have little meaning without the relationships that God gives you.”

CHOICE #3 — RENEW YOUR MIND

Action Step 11: Understand Your Current Mindset

Action Step 12: Identify Your Limiting Beliefs

Action Step 13: Destroy Your Progress Hackers

Action Step 14: Install Your Freeing Beliefs

Action Step 15: Live Your Newfound Clarity

Excerpt from Choice #3 (Page 68)

“In a world of comparison and distractions, this can be very challenging. The state of your mind can make or break your success in work and life. Your current mindset is so important that God teaches us in His Word that what you think about determines the outcome of your life.”

CHOICE #4 — MANAGE YOUR RESOURCES

Action Step 16: Assess Your Assets

Action Step 17: Appraise Your Debt

Action Step 18: Attack Your Debt

Action Step 19: Expand Your Resources

Action Step 20: Embrace Your Freedom

Excerpt from Choice #4 (Page 104)

Stewardship is not a word that many people use today, but it is a critical principle for leading The GREAT Life. Stewardship recognizes that your resources come from God to use for His glory and purposes. Your money is not simply your money. It is God’s gift to you so you can live in a way that honors Him…In order to experience The GREAT Life, you must learn to manage your resources well. You must become a wise steward of all God has given you.”

CHOICE #5 — MAXIMIZE YOUR TIME

Action Step 21: Evaluate Your Schedule

Action Step 22: Clarify Your Priorities

Action Step 23: Create Your Plan

Action Step 24: Command Your Plan

Action Step 25: Enrich Your Life

Excerpt from Choice #5 (Page 140)

You have a limited number of days on this earth. From the day you were conceived, the countdown clock started ticking. While you may not know how many years you will live, God does. He wants you to make the most of your days. He wants you to live an effective life that honors Him and helps others know Him… Are you making the best use of your limited, precious time? Are you walking wisely each day? Are you redeeming the time or are you simply spending it?”

“In this thoughtful book, Chris McClure builds a bridge from the world’s typical concept of “greatness,” to the Way God has destined for us. Right from the start, Chris reminds us to focus on a “core” identity and trajectory that is spiritually grounded.  He also emphasizes the invaluable nature of relationships, so often overlooked in our transactional world of immediate gratification. You’ll also enjoy Chris’ fresh perspective on stewardship, moving far beyond the “treasure” message we usually hear, to the importance of stewarding our thoughts and our time.  This is a practical book, with insights and reflections that you can apply right away.”
